Opposition Party says Omarska Police Terrorized Visiting Scandinavian Youths BELGRADE, May 25 (Reuters) - An opposition party in the separatist Bosnian Serb republic accused police on Saturday of detaining a visiting Scandinavian youth delegation. The Social Liberal Party (SLS) delivered a protest to the Bosnian Serb Police Ministry about the treatment of four Swedish and Finnish nationals and their IFOR-accredited tranlator.
The group was on the way out of Bosnia after visiting the SLS in Banja Luka last Tuesday. The party said police from the northwestern town of Omarska detained the visitors for at least six hours, but police there denied ever coming in contact with the group.
The SLS alleged the police searched the grouptwo girls and two boysand destroyed rolls of film. "They were just a group of youngsterskids really," an SLS spokesman told Reuterss. "They were terrified out of their wits."
The spokesman said the film only had "pictures taken as memories."
The SLS called on the Bosnian Serb Police Minister to publicly appologise to both Sweden and Finland for the incident, which it said did not help "draw a positive picture of the Republika Srpska."
Based in the northern city of Banja Luka, the SLS is a rival to the hardline nationalist Bosnian Serb leadership of Radovan Karadzic, headquartered in the village of Pale near Sarajevo.
